When you listen, do you really hear what someone is saying or are you waiting for your turn? In this class, we will explore listening with our whole bodies to what others are saying and what we are telling ourselves. We will practice mindful presence and the art of making an empathetic connection, sometimes without words. Defined as the capacity to recognize another's state of mind or emotion, empathy is often characterized as the ability to "put oneself in another's shoes". Metaphorically, it can be described as emotional mirroring or resonance. This daylong workshop provides an opportunity to increase your listening and empathy skills using a variety of exercises, games, small group work, journaling, and role plays. Developing and increasing these vital skills can transform and heal your relationship with others, and more importantly, with self.
