Weekend Festival of Workshops

with Aviva & Rick Longinotti, Kristin Masters, Bar Lowenberg, Jennifer Young, Desiree Banzhaf and Jean Morrison

Note: Workshops listed with (Exp) indicate that the workshop is meant for people with experience and understanding of NVC.

Saturday Morning Sessions

1. Intro to NVC --- An interactive introduction to some of the basic concepts of NVC. Fun for all AND definitely the place to be if you have little or no experience with NVC. Led by Desiree Banzhaf
2. Overcoming Defensiveness in Couple Relationships --- Exploring the roots of defensiveness. Practicing thinking and responding free of resentment and guilt. Led by Rick and Aviva Longinotti
3. Parenting --- This session aims to grow honesty and empathy skills so we meet both our kids' needs and our own. Using exercises and roleplays, we'll unwrap the habits that get in our way of being the parents we really want to be. Led by Kristin Masters and Jennifer Young

Saturday Afternoon Session I

1. Intro to Grok! --- Offers a demonstration and opportunity to participate in the world of Grok!, an NVC-based game designed for understanding, listening, communication and fun. Led by Bar Lowenberg
2. Street Giraffe --- (Exp) We’ll explore shifting the sometimes awkward and dorky classical NVC into language that can be more easily heard by our listener, that fits their culture. In this interactive workshop, we dig for our deeper intentions as we offer up “more natural” ways to express what’s alive for us and land our empathy guesses. Led by Kristin Masters
3. Self-Empathy --- I consider self empathy the foundation of NVC. Learn how to keep your feet on the ground and your heart open even during conflict. Led by Aviva Longinotti

Saturday Afternoon Session II

1. Four Ears --- An interactive workshop illustrating the four NVC choices we have in responding to difficult-to-hear messages. Open to all - from beginner to experienced. Led by Bar Lowenberg and Jean Morrison
2. Scary Honesty --- (Exp) We will engage in role plays to experiment with expressing difficult honesty. Essential tips for expressing in this way will be highlighted. Led by Desiree Banzhaf
3. NVC in the Workplace --- A slide show presentation and opportunity to practice. The focus is on listening without taking offense and speaking in a way that the other is less likely to take offense. Led by Rick & Aviva Longinotti

Sunday Afternoon Session I

1. Intro to NVC --- If you are new to NVC, join us for a discussion and demonstration of NVC Basics. Led by Aviva Longinotti.
2. Gratitudes --- Kristin Masters hopes to spiral us into a quieter, deeper state of connection with the specificity of what we love and appreciate. This offering draws from both NVC’s practices of gratitude and Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects, using guided visualizations and personal sharing. This “best medicine” hopes to leave you feeling full and ready to meet your world.
3. Deep Grok! - (Exp) For more experienced giraffes, this fully interactive workshop uses Grok! cards and the NVC process to delve into our feelings and needs. Led by Bar Lowenberg and Jean Morrison
4. NVC and Depression and Anxiety --- This offering is based on the facilitator’s experience with using NVC to transform depression and anxiety. There will be a mixture of sharing and the learning of certain tools and practices. Led by Desiree Banzhaf

Sunday Afternoon Session II

1. Dance Floors --- Using NVC Dance Floors (cards laid out on the floor, representing the NVC process) a facilitator guides participants through the dance of communication. Offers an introduction to the NVC process, as well as an opportunity for those with previous experience to practice NVC skills. Led by Bar Lowenberg and Jean Morrison
2. Talking Politics --- A slide show presentation, discussion, and an effort to practice NVC in discussion of those with different convictions on political and social issues. Led by Rick Longinotti
3. Living NVC --- (Exp) A taste of NVC as spirituality, in the flavor of Robert Gonzalez’ LIFE program. Desiree and Kristin will offer a dive into the beauty of living needs and conscious choice.
