What's New - August
Have you noticed that we've started using photographs of Natural Bridges in our newsletter and website? We think it is an apt metaphor for NVC. In case you aren't familiar with it, Natural Bridges is on the west end of Santa Cruz where erosion has shaped arching rocks at the shore's edge.
We like the image because we see NVC is a natural bridge for achieving and maintaining connection with oneself, loved-ones, coworkers, and anyone with whom you care to connect. The rock of NVC is a firm belief in the natural human desire to give and receive. Even with relationships that have eroded, patient and consistent application of NVC can support you in healing pain, building trust, and preventing and resolving conflicts peacefully.
We hope that you grok our meaning and (like the cormorants in the photo above) will flock to our upcoming workshops! We have our first-Sunday-of-the-month Introduction to NVC on Aug. 3, a three-day Couples NVC series, and Jean is offering a special session on Listening to the Messages of Emotions.
For a feast of NVC workshops we invite you to Stretching Towards Nonviolent Communication - Weekend Festival of Workshops. The offerings are too many to mention here, but there is something for everyone - from beginner to seasoned NVC folks - with fun and games and community-building Saturday night.
I hope that you are connecting with the beauty of nature and the beauty in your own nature!
kind regards,
Laurie Brooks
NVCSC Director

Creating peace,
one conversation at a time
Nonviolent Communication Santa Cruz (NVCSC) provides opportunities to learn lifelong skills for communicating with compassion, sharing resources, and resolving conflicts.
We support the mission of the international Center for Nonviolent Communication by offering a variety of services for individuals, couples, and groups to learn and practice Nonviolent Communication in the Monterey Bay and surrounding areas.
Why Nonviolent Communication?
We have all been in situations where misunderstanding occurred. Either we have felt misunderstood or the other person got the wrong impression. What went wrong?
We often leave these situations feeling mystified as to what happened. How were we so misunderstood? Why was the other person so stubborn? Why couldn’t they understand what I was trying to say? Learn more...
