Parenting for Beginners
January 9 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Do you long for more peaceful communication with your children? Do you seek collaboration over coercion and wonder what that means in practice? Do you long for a nonviolent world and wonder how that might begin at home?
Whether it is a two year old kicking on the floor, a 5 year old grabbing a toy from another child, a teenager slamming the door shut or a parent considering doing each of the above – how might one approach these scenarios from a nonviolent communication perspective?
This class is for parents new to nvc (whether new to parenting or not). The instructor requests that you have a basic understanding of nvc prior to taking the class (three easily accessible options are available from the instructor at MichelleLeahGomez@gmail.com).
Cost: The course is free to all who wish; Michelle Leah Gomez is not charging for her services. To support NVC Santa Cruz, if you are able, a requested sliding scale donation for the 8 hours of class is $80, $120 or $160.
Prerequisites: Some introduction to nvc is requested; this class will assume a basic understanding of Feelings, Needs, Observation and Requests (You are welcome to email the instructor for clarity on this: MichelleLeahGomez@gmail.com).
This class will discuss concepts and use exercises from Inbal Kashtan’s Parenting From Your Heart to discuss basic concepts of nvc parenting. The bulk of class time will be exercises — applying these concepts to each parent’s real life examples and discussing the issues that arise.
Parenting is a journey. With learning and support, may the journey be one towards peace.
